Dignified
Equine Removal

Horses are so much more than just livestock—they’re family. Which is why their last days, passing and removal can be so difficult. As horse owners ourselves, we understand, and it’s why we offer the care-filled, dignified removal your horse deserves.

End-of-life decisions for your horse are often difficult and emotional. Whether a million dollar show horse or a pasture buddy, we treat each as if it were our own, offering dignity, love, and gentleness during the removal and burial process.

To help ease the hardship and trauma of the day, we come to you as soon as you call (typically within an hour). We can coordinate directly with your veterinarian to gently and respectfully remove your deceased horse in a dignified manner — just as we would a member of the family.

Our care-filled, one-of-a-kind removal process ensures that your horse is unharmed as they’re lovingly and gently loaded into our empty and sanitary horse trailer for their last ride... into the sunset.

    Here’s how it works →

  • Simply put, we are unique. As horse owners ourselves, we created Into the Sunset to be like a ‘funeral home’ for horses.

Unlike typical carcass removal services, we treat your horse with gentleness and dignity—the same care we would give to our own family member. Our respectful removal technique causes no harm to the horse and is easy for you to watch as the owner.

  • While each situation is unique, our equipment includes the following to ensure the most gentle and respectful removal possible:

Large, plastic slide/sled and straps to “seat belt” your horse on (we never use chains)

Extra large, clean horse trailer, sanitized after each use

Electric winch to pull the slide into the trailer

Other equipment to maneuver horses out of hard-to-reach spaces

  • $500 for removals in Chico

$550 for removals outside of Chico

Difficult removals—price quoted on site (uncommon)

Cost includes gentle & professional removal, fuel, and burial fees. Transportation to Koefran for cremation or to UC Davis for necropsy will have an additional fee. Please call for a quote.

  • No. We take special care to roll the horse onto the plastic sled, ensuring a gentle and dignified “ride” into the trailer. We guarantee your horse will be the only animal in the trailer.

  • We keep your horse safe and secure, protected in our horse trailer until we deliver it for burial or cremation.

  • We serve Butte County, Glenn County, Tehama County and Shasta County. We also serve other Northstate communities—please ask if you live nearby those listed counties.

  • Absolutely! We can work closely with your veterinarian and often coordinate care directly with them. We consider ourselves part of your horse’s end-of-life team.

  • No, we do not. The closest rendering company is in Rancho Cordova.

  • Cremation services are available through Koefran in Rancho Cordova. After you have coordinated cremation with Koefran, we will provide transport services.

  • Yes. While we specialize in horses, we occasionally remove other large animals. Our fee is the same; we provide the same gentle, dignified removal service for each animal.

Family Founded & Care-filled

As longtime horse owners ourselves, we know just how hard it can be to walk with a four-legged friend until the end, which is why we do what we do.

After decades of riding and loving horses, the day came when our owner/operator, Andrea, had to say goodbye to one of her equine friends. Sadly, she learned there were no local options for gentle removal.

Andrea thought, “Wouldn’t it be nice if there were a funeral home for horses?” It was this realization that spurred Andrea to create Into The Sunset Dignified Equine Removal.

Thank you so much for the care you gave to my girl. We were blown away by your tenderness.
